Clemson

CAMPUS RESERVATIONS & EVENTS

WHAT DO WE DO?

Campus Reservations & Events (CRE) is a Clemson department which focuses on hosting events across campus. While there are a handful of full-time staff that run the department, Clemson students are the boots on the ground that help to make the events happen. I have worked with CRE for the past three semesters, two of which have been with operations and one semester I spent working behind the scenes in the main office as the Student Accounting & HR Manager (more information on this can be found on the Internship page).

The operations team is comprised of student staff that work to manage CRE event spaces which include: Hendrix Student Center, the Barnes Center, Brackett Hall, Memorial Auditorium, and the newly opened Caden Chapel. Tasks are dependent on the event which could mean setting up tables and chairs in addition to any tech equipment such as projectors, speakers and/or microphones. Some events are more specific like the case in Memorial Auditorium where larger events require stage lighting and various audio-visual requests.

This semester  (Spring 2022) I have divided my time between working Hendrix and Brackett shifts. Tuesday mornings I would open Hendrix which includes unlocking the necessary spaces like the Tiger Den study area and Hendrix room 121 which is being used a classroom space. During the shift, there is usually a set up needed to be done in order to prepare for events later in the day, some of which are more labor intensive than others. We are also working as ambassadors for Clemson/CRE and try our best to answer any questions students or visitors may have. Wednesday evenings I often alternated between Hendrix and Brackett Hall for closing. Working the Brackett shift is much more relaxed than Hendrix because no set ups are usually required.
